A Plan for Success
The lives, and identities, of competitive athletes often revolve around their sport and their training. An injury can change everything, leaving an athlete feeling lost, scared, and unmotivated. Sometimes athletes try to “tough it out” but in some cases, that coping strategy does not work and it is time to try something different. We educate our athlete-clients on the psychological effects of injury and provide expert support to help with the challenges of the rehabilitation process.
Sports medicine doctors, physical therapists, athletic trainers, fitness coaches, athletes and parents come to us to learn the inner game of injury recovery.
Learn to Manage Doubts, Set Goals, Develop a Recovery Game Plan, and Visualize Success so you can return to play as soon as possible.
Common concerns injured athletes may experience:
At Greenepsych, we understand that the rehabilitation process is like riding a roller coaster. There are moments when you are soaring, and then, other times, your upside down and you feel like you don’t know where you are going.
We focus on creating a strong relationship with our clients. Every client receives a personalized, “mental recovery training plan” that increases motivation, keeps an athlete’s eye on short-term, specific goals, and facilitates conversations on mental skills (e.g., visualization, mindfulness meditation, journaling, biofeedback) to be used to help make progress over time.
Most athletes that seek out our services need support navigating their recovery, including managing setbacks, and handling fear and worry (and pain).
We provide a safe, confidential space, allowing our clients to speak about their concerns and worries openly throughout the entire recovery process.
Think of the Greenepsych team as another part of your recovery team. We help you handle the mental hurdles as you move through the rehabilitation process. We typically meet with clients for one-hour, or half-hour sessions and, depending on progress and goals, we will meet with clients weekly, bi-monthly or we will spread out the sessions even further. We also offer an on-line, injured athlete support group. Use the intake form below to get information on pricing and available session packages for individual consultation and/or the support group. At this time, we are only offering phone, video or walk-and-talk sessions in a local park, if desired.
Every injured athlete knows what it’s like to feel stressed, and many know what it’s like to have pain that won’t remit. Biofeedback helps athletes understand what is happening in their bodies when they experience stress and/or pain. The awareness of how our bodies respond to stress is vitally important when learning how to reduce our physical stress and regain psychological balance. Once we gain this awareness, we use proven techniques to gain better control over our automatic reactions and reduce our levels of stress and/or pain. At Greenepsych, we use cutting edge technology, called HeartMath, with a focus on Heart Rate Variability to bring the body back to a balanced state.
