TENNIS

Competitive tennis players work tirelessly on fine-tuning their skills, timing, and shot selection. As their play improves the expectations to win (and to win consistently) increases exponentially. Why will a psychologically resilient player (versus a chronically frustrated player) have a better chance of realizing their tennis goals? The most important reason is that successful tournament players consistently embrace the process and challenge of climbing the tennis ladder—appreciating that their tennis game will mature over months and years rather than days and weeks.

Teaching self-awareness and resiliency skills are Dr. Greene’s trademark first steps when working with an aspiring athlete. The individualized mental game plan that Dr. Greene and the player co-create can be applied to life on and off the court.

APPROACH/SERVICES

Dr. Greene encourages tennis players to view him as another coach whose advice targets how to maximize on-the-court performance by minimizing mental mistakes. Dr. Greene recognizes that each athlete has his/her own individual strengths and struggles, but quite commonly rising tennis players feel weighed down by the pressure and expectations that come with increased success. Dr. Greene’s years of experience talking to players has taught him that self-awareness and resiliency skills are often best trained using a combination of in-office meetings and video technology.

See below for a sample of how Dr. Greene incorporates video technology into his work with athletes.

Mental Game Plan

Mitch,

Your video worked. Shockingly, David withstood pressure that I've never seen before. He and his partner had match point against them. David didn't double fault and saved multiple match points by his serve, which in all past matches, has been the first to go under pressure. When you next see him, I think you should stick with it. It was huge. Thanks!
